The ship below the surface is actually a replica of a whaling ship that was destroyed in 1973. The replica was originally a floating museum, with information about the history of Lahaina, but after time, it became too costly to keep afloat. A submarine tour company created an artificial reef by towing the ship and sinking it. It now sits at 97 ft below the surface and is a wonderful site to find reef sharks, frogfish, and endemic Hawaiian reef fish species.
