During the fall months, Giant Goliath Groupers go through their mating season. This is a perfect time for divers to observe these creatures, as they allow them to come in very close if properly approached. A diver must inch toward the grouper from the front, very, very slowly, watching the fish for signs of distress, such as an open mouth, or a sonic bark that the fish creates with its bladder. Goliath Grouper are generally 400-600 lbs, and so large that when a diver is close enough, the fish face can fill an entire wide angle frame!
